When I went to go see a show at the nga of a photographer who took photographed people’s portraits on the streets- them being aware and allowing for their image to be taken, I wanted to try to walk as fast as I could through the exhibit as if I were just passing these people on the street in real time. I wanted to see why the photographer chose the people he did- idk. Just a thought. I felt my decision to do so a good one. These are just strangers. To capture their dignity is redundant—I still know nothing about them- every human being deserves respect and dignity.
Note- during this I was more distracted by the actual strangers around me at the exhibit than the ones photographed.

thanks- that is awesome, couldn't be more timely! I read the more detailed info about his situational photography technique and think it is great. The only questions I wish he had addressed were the time of day the photographs were taken at and which station he sat at, but more importantly within whatever span he was there he photographed Everyone that passed through and left no one out in the final presentation. At the same time when I ask those questions it just makes me feel like im trying to turn it into a science project of sorts instead of art haha idk. i've been trying to ground a project for the past few months...anyway, I think this photographer has helped me to remember that the more my project comes together the less control I have over it and that ultimately it will be whatever the viewer wants it to be- which is one of the main reasons i love art. hahaha that reminder seems like common sense but sometimes I forget to just step back and let things settle before moving forward.
